AquaSox blow late lead, lose 3-2 to Hawks

BOISE — The Boise Hawks took advantage of a throwing error by Everett AquaSox catcher Christian Carmichael in the bottom of the seventh inning and rallied to defeat the Frogs 3-2 in the first game of a five-game Northwest League series on Thursday night.

The seventh inning provided all of the offense for both squads.

In the top of the seventh, singles by Jack Reinheimer, D.J. Peterson, and Austin Wilson produced a run for Everett, breaking a scoreless tie. Designated hitter Chantz Mack followed with another single to drive in Peterson and give Everett a two-run advantage.

Boise finally got to Everett starting pitcher Steven Ewing in the bottom of the seventh. After allowing a single to Lance Rymel and hitting Jacob Rogers with a pitch, Ewing allowed a run-scoring single to Rony Rodriguez to pull Boise to within one.

Reliever Min-Sih Chen replaced Ewing with two outs in the seventh, and promptly gave up a game-tying base hit to Cael Brockmeyer. Following James Zamarripa’s throw home, Carmichael tried to nail an advancing Brockmeyer at third base, but overthrew Peterson to allow the go-ahead run.
