Kim promoted
When a pitcher turns in a performance like Seon Gi Kim did his last time out for the AquaSox, he probably deserves a promotion.
Kim moved on up Wednesday as he was promoted to Clinton of the mid Class A Midwest League.
The 20-year-old right-hander from South Korea made two quality starts with Everett, and his last start Saturday against Spokane was one of the best in franchise history when he tossed six no-hit innings and struck out 13. In total Kim finished 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 12 innings with the Sox.
This is not Kim’s first time in the Midwest League. He made four starts for Clinton last season, going 0-2 with a 4.74 ERA.
To replace Kim the Mariners demoted right-hander Ambioris Hidalgo from Clinton.
Hidalgo, a 21-year-old from the Dominican Republic, made 15 starts with Clinton. The 6-foot-2, 196-pounder went 2-9 with a 5.67 ERA for the LumberKings, walking 32 and striking out 38 in 73 innings.
Reaching base
Chris Taylor arrived in Everett from the University of Virginia with the reputation of a shortstop who had a good glove, but a limited bat. Despite that, he’s been an on-base machine so far in his professional career. Going into Wednesday’s game Taylor had reached base in all 12 of Everett’s games, and his .574 on-base percentage led the Northwest League.
