Cascade nets district berth

ARLINGTON – Cascade’s boys basketball team played tough defense and sank key free throws in its 42-31 victory over Arlington Friday night.

The Bruins clinched a 4A district playoff berth with the victory and, combined with Marysville-Pilchuck’s loss to Mount Vernon, took over first place in the Wesco North.

The Bruins sank 10 of 17 free throws in the final period to seal the victory.

Snohomish 71, Lake Stevens 55: Snohomish took the Wesco North match-up behind Jon Brockman’s 27 points and seven rebounds, and 10 points and eight rebounds from Nate Van Duin. Perhaps the game’s most impressive performance, however, was turned in by Lake Stevens’ guard Jeremy Roe, who scored 20 of his game-high 28 points after halftime.

Jackson 59, Mariner 55: After falling behind 9-0 to start the Wesco South contest, Jackson switched from a zone defense to man-to-man and doubled Mariner post Tommy Craddock. The move proved effective – Craddock scored all but four of his 14 points before halftime, while Jackson’s eventual victory was led by a combined 38 points from brothers Jamie (15) and Drew (23) Eisinger. The loss by Mariner clinched district playoff berths for Meadowdale and Kamiak.

Shorewood 61, Everett 46: Rob Diederichs scored 18 points to lead Shorewood to the Wesco South triumph. For Everett, Kyle Lampi made a trio of 3-pointers and scored 12 points, while Clay Kincaid added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Mountlake Terrace 65, Edmonds-Woodway 53: Senior guard Adrian Blake’s 15 points paced a balanced Terrace (four players scored in double figures) attack that pushed the ball relentlessly, quickly building a 19-10 first-period lead in the Wesco South game. Senior guard Huston Conti’s 13 points led E-W.

Lakewood 74, Granite Falls 53: Anthony Wiederkehr scored a game-high 36 points and Slava Borosov chipped in 13 to lead Lakewood to the Cascade Conference victory. Granite Falls’ Josh Knudson had a team-high 18 points and Gil Schoonover grabbed eight rebounds and recorded a career-high 16 points.

La Conner 46, Friday Harbor 42 OT: La Conner went to a match-up zone in the third quarter to stage a comeback from a nine-point halftime deficit in the Northwest A/B game. Friday Harbor coach Rod Turnbull said his team had a couple of turnovers in the overtime period which really hurt.

Cody Werst added nine points and seven rebounds for Darrington.
