Cascade runner-up at state

LYNNWOOD – The Cascade girls ended a weekend of bowling with a second-place finish in the state tournament Saturday at Lynnwood Lanes.

The Bruins (7,337 pins) finished 71 pins behind Wilson (7,408), the 4A state champion for the second consecutive year.

Led by senior co-captains Anastasia Adams and Peggy Wadena, and all-tournament team member Breanne Mattson, Cascade improved from a third-place finish at last year’s tournament.

“All seven girls really stepped up and bowled well this weekend,” Cascade head coach Ron Hicks said.

“(It ends) a good year all the way around.”

South Kitsap (7,235), which led at the beginning of the day, rounded out the top three.

In the 3A/2A tournament, Shelton (7,547) won the team title followed by Kelso (7,193) and West Valley (7,174).

Everett finished in sixth place.

Shorewood 46, Lynnwood 39: At Shoreline, Jane Fleck had 11 of her 23 points in a 15-10 third quarter that helped Shorewood pull away in the Wesco South game. Kari Hella had 10 points to lead Lynnwood.

Cedarcrest 55, Coupeville 25: At Duvall, after trailing 6-0 in the first quarter, Cedarcrest went on a 15-0 run to jump ahead in the Cascade Conference game. Erica Taylor led the Red Wolves with 22 points, six steals and four assists. Chelsea Rosenkrance, Ashley Manker and Alyssa Kelley all scored six points apiece for Coupeville

Jessica McClary led Orcas Island with 11 points.

Shorewood 51, Lynnwood 47 (OT): At Lynnwood, Shorewood’s Taylor Hartman led all scorers with 22 points while Conner Milne scored 15 for Lynnwood in the Wesco South contest. Lynnwood’s loss clinched 3A District 1 playoff berths for both Everett and Shorecrest. Lynnwood must beat Shorecrest next week and have Arlington lose twice to keep the Royals’ postseason hopes alive.
