Community roundup: Late-model mark falls at Evergreen Speedway

Garret Archer set the record, but Jeremy Doss took the checkered flag during Evergreen Speedway’s opening night Saturday.

Archer set a Super Late Model track record during qualifying, but it was Doss who prevailed at race time, winning the first leg of the Bud Crown Series, Evergreen’s premier series.

Doss, from Upper Lake, California, edged Archer by 0.663 seconds to claim first place in the 100-lap Super Late Model main. Shane Harding came in third.

Archer’s qualifying time of 15.468 seconds — achieved on Evergereen’s repaved three-eighth of a mile track — shattered Naima Laing’s previous record of 16.380, which had stood since 2012. That was expected on the repaved track, as 22 drivers bettered the old mark.

Jamie Corbett won the Hornet main, Gary Rarden won the Stinger 8 Main and Steve Peters won the Stock F8 main.
