Community roundup: Vikings win youth football title

The Lake Stevens Vikings-Black won the North Sound Junior Football League’s Senior Division championship on Nov. 10.

The Vikings, a team made up of players ages 12-13, defeated the Snohomish Panthers-White 70-44 in the title game at Lake Stevens High School. Lake Stevens completed the season with a 10-1 record. Snohomish finished 9-3.

Members of the Vikings’ roster included Ian Arington, Conor Bardue, Dylan Billings, Eric Billings, Riley Eberlein, Hunter Eckstrom, Anfernee Gurley, Tyler Guzman, Dylan Hutchinson, Adam Kylany, Zach Kylany, Chandler Landre, Andre Litty, Jevon Morris-Partee, Keagen Murdoch, Austin Murren, Seth Ramos-Galiza, Tristan Rice, Seth Roberts, Kyle Sexton, Dahlton Sullivan, Layne Taylor, Justin Thompson, Wyatt Wahlberg and Michael Wilkens.

The team was coached by Rich Bardue, Mike Anderson, Geoff Dishion, Andy Taylor, Rob Eckstrom, Brian Newell, Troy Jellison and Quantez Gurley.

Hejazi to compete in FBU Championship

Offensive lineman Bobak Hejazi of Stanwood has been selected to play for the Seattle team in the upcoming Football University eighth-grade national championship.

Hejazi is a student at Stanwood Middle School.

The Seattle team’s first game is Saturday in Portland, Ore. Seattle is in the Region I bracket along with Oregon, Eastern Washington/Northern Idaho, Southern Oregon, Northern Los Angeles, Central Valley (Calif.), Bay Area (Calif.) and Sacramento.

Billed as the largest “youth football tournament ever put together,” the FBU National Championship involves 64 teams competing in a single-elimination tournament. The first four rounds are scheduled for regional sites. The semifinals and championship take place Jan. 5-6 in the Alamodome in San Antonio as part of U.S. Army All-American Bowl week.
