OAK HARBOR — Everett dealt Oak Harbor its first Wesco 3A and second wrestling loss of the season on Thursday night, 42-30.
According to Oak Harbor assistant coach Larry Falcon, the score didn’t necessarily reflect what was a night of hard fought, relatively close matches.
“It went tat for tat pretty much all the way along,” Falcon said. “We had some early upsets and some late upsets. It got us in the end. … The matches went their way, we needed them to go our way. We were really equal, I was pretty proud of our kids.”
When asked which matches in particular showed the equality, Falcon noted three.
First, he was impressed by the contest of wrestling ability between Everett’s Jessie Lopez and Oak Harbor’s Mark Johnston, despite the 11-3 final score in favor of the Seagull wrestler. “Once Mark got up and woke up, he wrestled pretty well.”
Second, Sheyenne Sams’ (OH) pin of Tyler Dutton (E) Falcon stood out as a great match. “He turned that guy right at the end of the period.”
Third, even thought it was a quick pin, Falcon noted the good wrestling going on between Josh Crebbin (OH) and Garret Wise (E).
Everett remains undefeated in league and continues to fight with Oak Harbor and Glacier peak for the top spot in the Wesco 3A. Oak Harbor wrestles again tonight at Hazen H.S. in Renton for the first annual fundraiser Taking Down Pancreatic Cancer Match.
