Lakewood takes sole possession of 1st place in Northwest Conference.

The Lakewood football team broke into the Associated Press state 2A football rankings for the first time this week. The Cougars took sole possession of first place in the Northwest Conference on Friday.

Lakewood posted a 37-7 win over Anacortes, pushing its conference record to 3-0 (5-1 overall). The 10th-ranked Cougars took over the top spot in the conference by themselves after Burlington-Edison beat Sedro-Woolley 48-20.

In Wesco 4A action, Monroe and Lake Stevens posted victories to remain tied atop the conference with 4-0 records. The Bearcats thumped Mariner 51-13, and the Vikings crushed Glacier Peak 63-14.

Elsewhere, Oak Harbor and Ferndale recorded wins to stay on top of Wesco 3A North in advance of their looming showdown. The ninth-ranked Wildcats defeated Marysville Getchell 49-7, while the fourth-ranked Golden Eagles beat Stanwood 35-3. Oak Harbor and Ferndale will match up next Friday.

Cascade 35, Mount Vernon 21

Donelle Meriwether and Massai Moore scored two touchdowns each to help the Bruins (4-2 overall, 2-2 Wesco 4A) earn a road victory over the Bulldogs.

Moore scored on a pair of short touchdown runs, the second of which put Cascade ahead to stay.

Meriwether returned a blocked field goal attempt 90 yards for a score before the half, and Sean Sibley caught a 25-yard scoring pass from Cascade quarterback Brett Gillis to open the Bruins’ scoring.

Seth Tercero rushed for a touchdown and caught a scoring pass for Mount Vernon (2-4, 1-3).

Jackson 34, Kamiak 14

Caviyon McCallister ran for three touchdowns for Jackson in its Wesco 4A win over visiting Kamiak.

Johnathan Navarro caught a 35-yard touchdown pass for the Timberwolves (2-3 overall, 2-2 conference).

The Knights fell to 1-5 (0-4).

Oak Harbor 49, Marysville Getchell 7

Mackenzie Nuanez ran for three touchdowns in Oak Harbor’s rout of host Marysville Getchell.

Taeson Hardin added two touchdowns on the ground for the Wildcats (6-0 overall, 3-0 Wesco 3A North), and Jordan Bell connected with Kyle Nickols on an 8-yard scoring strike.

The Chargers (0-6, 0-4) got their touchdown on a 6-yard pass from Caleb Koellmer to Trey Padgett.

Ferndale 35, Stanwood 3

Ferndale held visiting Stanwood to one first down in the first half and took a 21-3 halftime lead en route to a Wesco 3A North win.

Jalen Velasquez made a field goal for the Spartans’ (3-3 overall, 2-2 conference) only points.

Mountlake Terrace 27, Lynnwood 9

Brandon Bach caught six passes for 114 yards and a touchdown to help propel Mountlake Terrace over visiting Lynnwood in Wesco 3A South action.

Quarterback Jesse Martineau had a strong perfomance for the Hawks (4-2 overall, 1-2 conference), picking up a touchdown through the air and another on the ground.

Delaun Smiley-Tatum scored the lone touchdown for the Royals (0-6, 0-3), and Jayden Acosta-Newsome delivered Lynnwood’s first points of the game with a safety in the third quarter.

King’s 45, Cedar Park Christian (Bothell) 27

King’s quarterback Brennon Blevins accounted for seven touchdowns and the host Knights forced seven turnovers in a Cascade Conference win over Cedar Park Christian.

Blevins ran for 103 yards and four scores while also throwing three touchdowns. King’s strong safety Jonathan Chen was in on three turnovers (intercepting a pass, recovering a fumble and forcing another), while defensive end Danny Bogen had two fumble recoveries for the Knights (4-3 overall, 3-1 conference).

Running back Zach Wilkins had 22 carries for 150 yards and three touchdowns for the Eagles (2-4, 0-3).

Archbishop Murphy 52, Granite Falls 14

Archbishop Murphy outscored Granite Falls 28-0 in the second quarter, and the host Wildcats went on to earn a Cascade Conference victory.

Archbishop Murphy running back Ray Pimentel rushed for 315 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries. Wildcats (5-1 overall, 3-0 conference) quarterback Victor Gabalis also had an efficient night, completing 7-of-11 passes for 178 yards and three touchdowns, including a 73-yard strike to Rwehabura Munyagi that capped Murphy’s second-quarter scoring outburst.

Tigers (3-3, 2-1) quarterback Camden Landrum opened the game’s scoring with a 71-yard touchdown run to give the visitors a 6-0 lead. Landrum added a 28-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter and finished with 153 yards on the ground.

Lakewood 37, Anacortes 7

Lakewood quarterback Austin Lane set a school passing record with 409 yards as the Cougars took sole possession of first place in the Northwest Conference after beating host Anacortes.

Lane finished 20-for-26 with five touchdowns and one interception. Lane’s yardage total eclipsed the previous record set by his brother Justin.

George Toponce was Lane’s leading receiver with six receptions for 124 yards and three touchdowns. Blake Funston also had a productive game with 119 yards on five catches, including a 76-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter.
