Georgetown dismisses Whittington from team

WASHINGTON — Georgetown has dismissed junior forward Greg Whittington from the team.

The school announced the decision before Saturday’s game against Lipscomb. Coach John Thompson III declined comment on Whittington’s dismissal after the Hoyas’ 70-49 win.

Whittington had not played this season while recovering from knee surgery this past summer. He also missed the final 19 games last season because of an academic suspension.

Whittington averaged 12.1 points and 7.0 rebounds in 13 games last season, ranking behind only Otto Porter in both categories. His final game came Jan. 8 in a 73-45 home loss to Pittsburgh.
