Getting healthier

It was mostly good news Tuesday for the Tips on the injury front.

First off, Everett’s getting two of its walking wounded back for tomorrow night’s home game against Tri-City. Leading scorer Dan Gendur, who missed the weekend’s games with the flu, is back to full speed. And defenseman Tyler Kieffer, who’s missed three games with an upper-body injury, will also be back in the lineup. Defenseman Chris de la Lande is still day-to-day with his leg injury, but he’s resumed practicing.

But perhaps the best news from a long-term perspective is that defenseman Taylor Ellington has been cleared to resume skating. Ellington suffered a fractured bone in his foot blocking a shot on Jan. 24 in Prince George and hasn’t played since, missing the past 17 games. It’s questionable whether Ellington will be able to get into a game by the end of the regular season, but he should be ready to go for the playoffs.

The one piece of bad news is that winger Kyle Beach is still experiencing swelling in his cheek from the shot he took to the face during Saturday’s game in Vancouver. Beach, who returned to the game Saturday, will be held out tomorrow. However, the Tips hope he’ll be ready for the weekend.

So it sounds like the Tips, provided they survive the week without any further mishaps, may be back to full strength for the start of the playoffs. That’s something the team hasn’t been able to say in a long time.
