SPOKANE — Nigel Williams-Goss, who led the Gonzaga men’s basketball team to its first appearance in the Final Four, has decided to skip his senior season and declare for the NBA draft. He will hire an agent, precluding his return to Gonzaga.
The second team All-American announced his decision Tuesday.
“I just felt like in my heart of hearts it was the right decision,” Williams-Goss told the Spokesman-Review newspaper. “I feel like I came here to improve as a player. Looking at all my stats across the board, I did that. I came here to get my degree and I did that. I came here to help Gonzaga make history and I think we did that by making the Final Four and the championship game.
“I feel like mentally and physically I’ve done pretty much all I could do at this level.”
Williams-Goss led Gonzaga in scoring this past season at 16.8 points per game. The top-seeded Zags advanced to the NCAA title game, where they lost to North Carolina.
The guard played his first two seasons at Washington, then sat out a year per NCAA rules before leading Gonzaga to a 37-2 record.
He was named West Coast Conference player of the year.
Williams-Goss is the second member of this year’s Gonzaga team to leave early for the NBA. Freshman center Zach Collins announced last week that he would skip his final three seasons and enter the draft.
