A couple of things to report tonight.
Most pressing for Huskies fans is that Spencer Hawes, according to a UW representative, did not practice on Monday due to his sprained ankle but he’s expected to practice Tuesday and play against Oregon on Thursday. That’s obviously good news for Washington, which missed Hawes in the loss to Washington State. Hawes should give the UW an advantage inside against the more perimeter-oriented Oregon Ducks.
In football news that could affect Washington, the Oakland Raiders have hired USC offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin after striking out in hiring Trojans quarterback coach Steve Sarkisian last week. Kiffin was going to be the Oakland offensive coordiantor had Sarkisian taken the job. Now the 31-year-old gets his first head coaching job. Just as important as Kiffin being the offensive coordinator is the fact that he was also the recruiting coordinator. I doubt it will play that huge a difference this late in the recruiting game – and given the fact that Pete Carroll is as good a recruiter as their is in the Pac-10 – but it might make a difference in the future.
