SNOHOMISH — Mountlake Terrace’s Dominic DeMiero and Jaden Yackley both continued their hot hitting starts as the Hawks downed Glacier Peak 9-5 on Tuesday in a Wesco 3A South game.
DeMiero finished 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. The senior now has seven doubles on the season.
“He’s off to a good start … probably as good of a hitting streak in his career,” Hawks head coach Andrew Watters said about DeMiero. “He’s been getting good pitches to hit, getting good swings and he’s been hitting the ball hard. I think it’s been as simple as that.”
As good as DeMiero has been, his .562 batting average is still second on the team to Yackley. The Terrace second baseman went 3-for-4, his fourth multi-hit game out of six played, and improved his average to .600.
“He’s been just as hot as Dominic,” Watters said. “Between him and Dom, they’ve been carrying quite a load offensively and it’s been really huge for us in the last couple of games.”
The Hawks capitalized on early Grizzlies’ defensive mistakes to score three runs in each of the first two innings and never trailed in the game. Starting pitcher Daniel Theis threw five innings to earn the win.
Austin Hines highlighted Glacier Peak’s offense. The senior hit a pair of doubles and finished 3-for-4 in the game.
