Indians hand AquaSox 5th straight home loss

EVERETT — The Everett AquaSox’s struggles at home continued Thursday night.

Everett’s home losing streak ran to five games as the Sox fell 5-2 to the Spokane Indians at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Spokane rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning, turning a 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 lead. Everett tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth, bringing the tying run to the plate, but the Sox were unable to push any runs across.

Jose Trevino went 3-for-4 with two doubles, and Saquan Johnson homered to lead Spokane (11-2), which maintained its three-and-a-half game lead at the top of the Northwest League standings.

Austin Cousino went 3-for-5 and Adam Martin homered to lead Everett (4-10), which has won just once at home this season.

The game took an abrupt turn late in the contest. Everett had just taken a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of Martin’s solo bomb to left, his first homer as a professional.

However, the Indians responded immediately with four quick runs in the top of the seventh to gain control of the game. The first six batters of the inning reached base against reliever Ricardo Pereira, starting with Johnson’s homer to left on the first pitch of the inning. Single runs scored on singles by Jose Trevino and Marcus Greene, and another scored when Luke Tendler’s routine grounder went through second baseman Jordan Cowan’s legs, giving Spokane a 5-2 lead the Indians didn’t relinquish.
