I’m sick of oblong volleyballs, the way they streak through my camera frame, going way to fast to be accurately captured by my “film”. Enter ISO 6400. I decided a couple of weeks ago, while at the Snohomish gym shooting volleyball, that I would push up to the nether regions of my camera’s capabilities and shoot on “H”, otherwise known as 6400. Ta-da! Thanks to 1/500th of a second at 2.8, we now have round volleyballs. (Well, more round) The grain at 6400 is a lot more pronounced, especially in the shadows, but in the lighter midtones and highlights, it’s not as bad and even non-existent when properly exposed.
Here are a couple more photos from last night’s match featuring Jackson at Kamiak. And just for contrast, I’ll include a couple of photos from previous years, shot at lower ISOs. You’ll notice that the older photos are much darker, with more ball movement.
