Jackson to face Bellevue at King Holiday Hoopfest

Outside of a genuine scare from Edmonds-Woodway, the Jackson boys basketball team hasn’t really been challenged much this season.

That should change at the King Holiday Hoopfest. The Timberwolves face Bellevue, which is 6-3 and unbeaten in Kingco so far. Jackson and Bellevue play Monday, Jan. 21 at 2:30 p.m. at Rough Brougham Pavilion on the campus of Seattle Pacific University.

Other big matchups include Bothell (10-0) vs. Rainier Beach (6-3) and Garfield (8-1) vs. Franklin (9-1). To purchase tickets, click here.

10:30 a.m.: Wilson vs. Cleveland (GIRLS)

Noon: O’Dea vs. Lakeside


2:30 p.m.: Bellevue vs. Jackson

6:30 p.m.: Jefferson (Portland) vs. Mount Rainier

8 p.m.: Garfield vs. Franklin

Bothell High School’s Zach LaVine and Rainier Beach High School’s Shaqquan Aaron will highlight a full day of prep basketball action at the annual King Holiday Hoopfest beginning at 9 a.m., Monday, Jan. 21. This year’s competition will be held at Seattle Pacific University’s Royal Brougham Pavilion, 3414 Third Ave. W, Seattle.

LaVine who has committed to play college hoops at UCLA, and his Bothell teammates will face Aaron, who has scholarship offers from UCLA and Syracuse, and his defending State 3A Champions Rainier Beach Vikings in Monday’s 4 p.m. game. Rainier Beach also features last year’s 3A state tournament MVP Marquis Davis. LaVine is listed number one among ESPN’s Top 10 Washington State High School Players.

Wilson and Cleveland high-school girls’ teams will tip off at 10:30 a.m.

King Holiday Hoopfest alumni feature several NBA stars including Los Angeles Clippers guard Jamal Crawford and Chicago Bulls guard Nate Robinson from Rainier Beach H.S.; Memphis Grizzlies guard Tony Wroten from Garfield H.S.; Boston Celtics guard Jason Terry from Franklin H.S.; Toronto Raptors forward Terrence Ross and Houston Rockets forward Terrence Jones from Jefferson High School, Portland, OR; Philadelphia 76ers center Spencer Hawes and Washington Wizards guard Martell Webster from Seattle Prep and Detroit Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey from Kentwood H.S. All proceeds from Hoopfest will benefit Boys &Girls Clubs of King County and Friends of Hoop.

Boys &Girls Clubs of King County inspire and enable young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. With 12 full-service clubs and 28 before- and after-school program sites, the organization is one of the largest of its kind in the nation, serving 18,000-plus members annually.

Advance-sale tickets for the King Holiday Hoopfest can be purchased for $10 per ticket. Tickets are also available at the door on the day of the event beginning at 8:30 a.m. at SPU’s Royal Brougham Pavilion ticket window.
