EVERETT — A career performance at the plate from Salem-Keizer first baseman Ryan Kirby was enough to lead the Volcanoes to a 9-5 win over the Everett AquaSox before 1,595 fans at Everett Memorial Stadium Thursday.
Kirby finished 5-for-5 at the plate with five RBI and two runs scored to raise his average more than 40 points to .333. He now leads the Northwest League with 19 RBI.
The Volcanoes (9-13) pounded out 17 hits collectively en route to snapping their two-game losing streak. Every starter had at least one hit, and Logan Baldwin, Gustavo Cabrera and Juan Rodriguez all had two each.
Salem-Keizer pulled in front for good with two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to turn a 5-5 tie into a 9-5 advantage.
The Volcanoes snapped a 4-4 tie in the top of the fifth. Rob Calabrese led off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Kirby.
The Frogs drew even in the bottom the inning when Joseph Rosa doubled and scored on a wild pitch.
Salem-Keizer built a 4-0 lead through three innings.
Malique Ziegler led off the top of the first with a single, went to third when the ball was misplayed by the left fielder and scored on a sacrifice fly.
In the third, Kirby had a two-run single and later scored on a bases-loaded walk to run the S-K lead to 4-0.
The Frogs got all four back in the bottom of the third. The first run came home on a sacrifice fly from Rosa, and Brayan Hernandez stole home on the back end of a double steal. Eugene Helder tripled in Chris Torres, and Helder scored on an RBI single by Johnny Adams.
