Lake Stevens kokanee fishing remains fairly consistent, according to Marcella Rockenbach at Greg’s Custom Rods in Lake Stevens. Fishermen are dropping deeper now, she said, to 40 or 50 feet, and the deeper gear switches from Wedding Ring spinner rigs to small plastic squid tipped with maggots or Berkley artificial maggots. An even better bait, Rockenbach said, is shoepeg corn soaked in tuna oil.
The critical factor, however, is to be on the water early. The bite, she says, is usually over by 9 a.m.
