Going into last week’s playoff game with Burlington-Edison, Lakewood head coach Dan Teeter talked to his players about relishing their final game in their home stadium. Due to WIAA rules state playoff games must be played on field turf, meaning the Cougars would have to play their game at Marysville Pilchuck’s Quil Ceda Stadium if they moved on.
Can’t be at the game? Follow tonight’s action as Herald prep editor Aaron Swaney will be posting updates, pics and video on Twitter.
Then Lakewood officials looked into it. Apparently if the WIAA approves the natural grass a team can host a state playoff game. Tuesday Lakewood had WIAA officials check Dick Cardinal Stadium and got a thumbs up. “Credit the grounds crew and our AD (Matt Blair) for looking into it,” Teeter said. “We’re just thrilled to be playing one more game at our home field.”
Lakewood hosts Lindbergh Friday night at 7 p.m. at Dick Cardinal Stadium, Lakewood H.S.
Lakewood star tight end Dustin Stanton will miss tonight’s game with an injury, but if Lakewood win it’s hoping Stanton can play.
If Lakewood wins it will set a school record for wins in a season.
