Skipper Gary Krein of All Star Charters in Everett said the coho fishery in Marine Area 10, off Jeff Head, has been good and the fish are getting larger. A few of the resident silvers are showing in the 5-6 pound range, making real nice targets for those using light tackle and pulling a plug-cut herring on a shallow flatline.
“It’s exciting to see a nice coho slam one of the flatline rigs, with only 2 or 3 ounces of lead and a herring, very shallow, not far back of the boat. We use lighter tackle on those rigs, too, so it’s a geat experience,” Krein said.
Most coho fishermen are trolling at a depth of 20 to 30 feet with a chrome dodger and a white or other light-colored squid, Krein said.
