Local golfers to compete in PNGA Cup

Two Snohomish County golfers have been named to represent the Washington State Golf Association at the seventh annual PNGA Cup, scheduled for May 2-4 at Gorge Vale Golf Club in Victoria, B.C.

Stephen Lee of Everett, the 2010 PNGA Master-40 champion, was one of the mid-amateur men’s selections along with Mike Haack of Bellevue, Erik Hanson of Kirkland and Chris Bae of Issaquah.

The men’s Master-40 selections include Alex Stamey of Mill Creek, a 2011 PNGA Master-40 semifinalist, and Tom Brandes of Bellevue.

The PNGA Cup is a Ryder Cup-style competition between associations from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia that make up the Pacific Northwest Golf Association.

College honor roll

n Portland State women’s basketball player Eryn Jones has been named to the Big Sky Conference second team.

Jones, a senior point guard, averaged 13.3 points and 4.2 assists per game for the 15-14 Vikings. She ranked first in the league in 3-point field goals per game (2.6), second in 3-point percentage (39.6) and 10th in scoring.

Jones is a graduate of Meadowdale High School. She completed her career at Portland State tied for first in games played (127) and seventh in scoring (1,350 points). She is one of just 15 players in school history to top the 1,000-point mark.

n Three members of the Everett Community College men’s and women’s track and field teams were named Athletes of the Week by the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges for their performances at the Pacific Lutheran Invitational held March 10 In Tacoma.

Honored were freshman Keefe Hanson (men’s track) for his third-place time of 10 minutes, 5.21 seconds in the 3,000-meter steeplechase; sophomore Malaki Seanoa (men’s field) for his second-place showing in the javelin (191 feet, 11 inches) and 11th-place finish in the hammer throw (140-7); and sophomore Janell Alyea (women’s field) who placed first in the discus (128-10) and third in the hammer throw (120-00),
