Hopefully you’ve already ducked out early and started your holiday weekend, but if not we’re here to help you kill those last couple of hours.
With the Mariners now nine games over .500 and very much in the AL playoff picture, they’re starting to get noticed outside of the Pacific Northwest. Both USA Today and Sports Illustrated published articles this week on the surprise success of the Mariners.
As for the Seahawks, we’re in the middle of the quiet time before training camp, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t always something interesting happening involving the NFL and the Super Bowl champs.
The NFL Network continued its countdown of the league’s top 100 players Wednesday, and three Seahawks checked in between 11 and 20 on the list: Russell Wilson at 20, Earl Thomas at 17 and Marshawn Lynch at 14. Kam Chancellor made the top 100 earlier at No. 65, and Richard Sherman is still to come when the top 10 is unveiled next week.
And speaking of Lynch, he appeared on the Fox Sports 1 show “Back of the Shop” along with former baseball players Darryl Strawberry and Eric Davis:
Finally, if you’re looking for a bit of Sounders news to wrap things up: Sigi Schmid said today that Clint Dempsey and DeAndre Yedlin are unlikely to play Saturday in Vancouver having just returned from the World Cup, though he didn’t rule either out completely. Both will be available for the home game against Portland the following weekend, Schmid said.
Also, Dempsey and U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard had a brief chat with President Barack Obama following the national team’s elimination from the World Cup:
