PEORIA, Ariz. — The Seattle Mariners beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-2 on Saturday in a spring training contest at the Peoria Stadium.
The Mariners pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts and one walk.
David Phelps worked a scoreless fifth inning to earn the win in his first appearance of the spring, Jean Segura hit a two-run home run and Mike Morin picked up a save.
The Angels’ Martin Maldonado hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning.
In the bottom of the third frame, Segura belted a two-run home run onto the berm in left-center field, giving the Mariners a 2-1 lead.
The Angels evened the score in the top of the fourth on another solo home run.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Dee Gordon hit a triple inside the first base line. After Segura drew a walk, Robinson Canó lined a single into left field to score Gordon and give the Mariners a 3-2 lead.
Braden Bishop tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning for Seattle’s final run.
