Jaci LeGore-Hodgins doesn’t view the Marysville Pilchuck and Marysville Getchell girls swimming and diving teams as separate squads. That perspective was especially important to her this season.
“Our season has been really fun and special because the leadership on this team is one that will go down in the books,” said LeGore-Hodgins, the coach of both squads. “We all feel like we are on one team. We train together everyday. It is a gift we get to model for the greater community how Pilchuck and Getchell can work together and build each other up.”
The teams sent one swimmer and two divers to last weekend’s 3A state meet in Federal Way — Bindi Pedersen and Lexi Kilbourn of Marysville Getchell, and Lauren Carson of Marysville Pilchuck. Pedersen finished second in the 200-yard individual medley and fifth in the 100 breaststroke. Carson finished ninth in diving.
“Our seniors and juniors, along with our sophomore captain, have stepped up and done an extraordinary job mentoring our younger, less experienced swimmers from both schools,” LeGore-Hodgins said.
