Meadowdale wins in overtime

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – In a boys basketball game decided at the overtime buzzer – one team celebrated, the other was snake bitten for the third time in the waning seconds.

Meadowdale’s Milan Moncrief’s 3-point shot at the buzzer led the Mavericks to a 78-75 overtime victory over host Mountlake Terrace Friday night.

“It was one heck of a basketball game. He stepped up and made a winning play.” Mountlake Terrace coach Nalin Sood said. “It was a shame that one team had to lose.”

Moncrief led the Mavericks’ balanced scoring attack with 28 points while shooting 10-for-11 from the free-throw line. He also buried four 3-pointers.

Mountlake Terrace felt the pain of a last-minute lost for the third time in a row.

“We are disappointed but not discouraged,” Sood said. “We are not losing basketball games, we are just getting beat by other teams making plays at the end.”

Hawks junior guard John Allen scored a game-high 33 points on 13-for-24 shooting from the field.
