Merchants finish 2nd in tourney

GRAND FORKS, B.C. — The Everett Merchants were two outs away from winning the Grand Forks International baseball tournament but had to settle for second place as pinch-hitter Tyler Yorko hit a two-run, walk-off double to give the Burnaby Bulldogs a 6-5 win on Monday.

Ty Holm had two RBI, while Nick Pribble, Ryan Malone and John Doering each had two hits and scored a run for Everett.

Earlier in the day, the Merchants advanced to the championship game after beating the Seattle Studs 4-2. John Naff and Jake Levin each hit two-run home runs to account for the Merchants’ scoring and left-hander Zack Garrett threw a complete game to earn the win.

Everett is now 15-5 overall and leads the Pacific International League with a 12-2 record.
