EVERETT— The Everett Merchants continued their winning ways on Saturday by sweeping a doubleheader from Burnaby, B.C.
The Merchants took Game 1 by a score of 4-1, but Game 2 stole the show as Everett squeaked out a 7-6 victory in 14 innings.
The Merchants trailed 6-4 going into the bottom of the ninth inning, but rallied to score two runs and tie the score 6-6. The score remained the same until the bottom of the 14th inning, when Andy Lyon (Edmonds Community College) led off the inning with a walk. Lyon advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Patrick Bliss (Everett CC) then stepped to the plate and lined a single to left field to put runners on the corners.
After Kyle Phillips (Edmonds CC) intentionally walked and Travis Rush struck out swinging, Craig Monson hit a grounder to Burnaby first baseman Brian Briscoe. Briscoe couldn’t get a handle on the ball and was charged with an error that allowed Lyon to score the winning run.
Monson had two RBI and Blake Snow had an RBI for Everett.
Everett’s Bobby LeCount (Edmonds C.C.) batted 2-for-2 in Game 1 with a double and a triple. Monson was 2-for-2 with two RBI.
