EVERETT — The Everett Merchants swept a Pacific International League doubleheader from Coquitlam on Saturday, beating the Angels 11-3 and 7-1.
In the opener, Everett (5-1) rallied with two runs in the fifth inning tie the score 3-3 and then broke the game open with eight runs in the sixth.
In the second game, Everett scored four runs in the first inning and never were challenged. Starting pitcher Troy Hunter got the victory, throwing three innings while striking out four, walking none and allowing one unearned run.
The Merchants next play on Wednesday, facing the Everett AquaSox, a Seattle Mariners’ Class A farm team, in the annual Everett Cup game. First pitch is 7 p.m. at Everett Memorial Stadium.
