KELOWNA, B.C. — After a lightning-filled rainstorm forced the cancellation of a scheduled doubleheader against the Kelowna Falcons, the Everett Merchants instead took the field three hours later against the Trail Miners and won a seven-inning game 3-0 at Kelowna B.C.’s Elks Stadium Saturday night.
Everett starting pitcher Aaron West improved his record to 5-1, throwing a complete-game two hitter and striking out nine batters. He walked only one.
The Merchants got the only run they would need in the fourth inning when Bryan Barnes scored on a Jake Hammons groundout.
In the fifth, Barnes cracked a two-run double off the right-center field wall to score Ryan Bean and Nick Meehan to make it 3-0.
Meehan also had a triple and Ian Parmley went 2-4 for Everett, who are 24-8 for the season.
The Merchants continue their stay north of the border today with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against the Burnaby Bulldogs.
