SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The Mill Creek All-Stars got down early and a late rally fell short in a 5-3 quarterfinal defeat to Hawaii in a Little League Western Region softball tournament game at Al Houghton Stadium.
Mill Creek, the No. 1 seed after winning its three pool play games, finished its season 11-1 overall. Pitcher Amanda Wininger allowed only one earned run in four innings of relief.
Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth and final inning, Mill Creek scored three runs and brought the tying run to the plate.
Lauren Whitley tripled and scored on a Wininger single. Abby Pennylegion reached with two outs on Hawaii’s lone error and Kayla Peacocke kept hope alive with a single to right. Hawaii pitcher Tehani Epenesa induced a popup from the next batter to end the game.
