Monday Seahawks links

The Seahawks’ magic number is now one. Following Sunday’s 23-0 win in New York, the Seahawks need just one more win (or tie), or one more San Francisco loss (or tie), to secure home-field advantage in the playoffs. Seattle got to this point, of course, by thoroughly whipping the Giants in their own stadium. And as always, there’s plenty of good reading about that game, so let’s get to it.

From the blog, my five takeaways from the game.

Coverage from the Tacoma News Tribune here and the Seattle Times here.

Danny O’Neil of 710 ESPN Seattle says Seattle’s dominant win inspires Super Bowl dreams. has its game at a glance, and names Clinton McDonald the game’s unsung hero.

A funny story about a Federal Way car dealership that was running a promotion tied to the Seahawks shutting out the Giants. Though the idea that the shutout is causing the dealership to pay out $420,000 is pretty misleading. In fact an insurance company will pay that, and the dealership instead is getting a ton of national publicity for the bargain price of $7,000, which is what the insurance policy cost, so don’t feel bad for Jet Chevrolet.

As always, Peter King’s weekly look around the league at is worth checking out, and includes a few Seahawks mentions. Take note of King’s rankings, which list Seattle one and San Francisco two, but includes “MASSIVE LINE OF DEMARCATION” between the two.’s Pat Kirwan wonders if any NFC team has a shot at winning in Seattle. offers up five things we learned about the Seahawks, including that Richard Sherman is building a case to be defensive player of the year. Plenty of others, myself included, would argue that Earl Thomas is actually more deserving, and the fact that Seattle has two viable DPOY candidates could create a split-vote situation that keeps either from winning.

USA Today says the Seahawks were business as usual even after dominating the Giants in the home of this year’s Super Bowl.

From the New York Times, the view from the other locker room after the Giants were humiliated at home.
