Matt Chalfant has been hired as the girls basketball coach at Monroe High School.
Chalfant spent the past three seasons as the boys junior-varsity coach at Monroe.
“It’s always been a goal of mine to be a head coach and just felt like it was the right timing,” Chalfant said of his decision to apply for the job. “I was blessed to work with a great staff on the boys side. (Head coach) Nick Wold and (assistant) Dan Bare have been great mentors to me.”
The Monroe girls posted an 8-12 record in an eventful 2011-12 season. Head coach Brian Pane resigned in the middle of the season, forcing athletic director Brett Wille to take over the program.
Chalfant said he can’t wait to start working with his new team.
“There is a lot of experience coming back,” he said. “We are real excited about the opportunity coming up. We are looking to get out on the floor and run and to put a lot of pressure on people.”
