PEORIA, Ariz. — The Seattle Mariners beat the Los Angeles Angels 7-0 and the Oakland Athletics 4-1 for a sweep in split-squad action during spring training on Saturday.
Marco Gonzales, Juan Nicasio, James Pazos and David Phelps combined for a 3-hit shutout in Seattle’s win over the Angels.
Mike Zunino belted a two-run home run off the batter’s eye in center field to get the Mariners on the board in the second inning.
John Andreoli led off the bottom of the third with a walk and advanced to third base on Jean Segura’s single to right field. With two outs, Ryon Healy, seeing his first action of the spring after a hand injury, lined a double into the left-field corner to score Andreoli.
Dan Vogelbach led off the bottom of the fourth with a towering home run, his fourth of the spring, onto the berm in right field, and Kyle Seager connected for a solo home run in the seventh.
Making his fifth start of the Cactus League season, Marco Gonzales faced the minimum 17 batters over 5 2/3 innings of work. He allowed a leadoff single in the top of the third, but got a double play to work out of trouble.
