The National Lacrosse League handed out its weekly player awards on Wednesday and Kasey Beirnes of the Toronto Rock took home Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Beirnes scored five goals, dished two assists and picked up seven loose balls in the Rock’s 16-12 victory over the Rochester Knighthawks on Friday.
Edmonton Rush defenseman Kyle Rubisch was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week after a collecting three assists, 11 loose balls and forcing five turnovers in a 12-10 victory over Philadelphia on Friday.
Calgary’s Geoff Snider took home the league’s Transition Player of the Week award after scoring two goals, dishing one assist and collecting 19 loose balls helping the Roughnecks hand Colorado its first loss of the season in convincing fashion, 21-10 last Friday. Snider also went 27-for-31 in the faceoff circle against the Mammoth. The following evening, Snider was named the MVP of the NLL All-Star game in Buffalo.
Minnesota rookie goalkeeper Evan Kirk took home Rookie of the Week honors after saving 43 of the 50 shots he faced in a 15-7 victory over the Washington Stealth at Comcast Arena last Friday.
