SEATTLE — The Edmonds-Woodway football team lost its 3A state first-round matchup to No. 1 Eastside Catholic 42-13 at Memorial Stadium.
The Warriors turned the ball over five times, and the Crusaders capitalized on every opportunity Edmonds-Woodway handed them.
Jack Rossmeissl returned the Crusaders’ first interception of the night 50 yards for a touchdown to make it 21-0 early in the second quarter.
Edmonds-Woodway then fumbled on its next drive and Rossmeissl scooped it and scored on a 42-yard return for his second defensive score of the day, making it 28-0 in the second.
The Warriors had a chance to get on the board in the third quarter down 35-0, but Malik Putney scored the Crusaders’ third defensive TD on a 99-yard pick-six.
Edmonds-Woodway (9-2) recieved a pair of 2-yard TD runs from Carlos Serrano to get on the board in the fourth quarter. Serrano finished the night with 87 yards on 24 carries.
Jaro Rouse led the Warriors with 58 yards receiving and Noah Becker had an interception for the Warrior defense.
Eastside Catholic (10-0) will play the winner of Garfield and Lincoln next week in the 3A state quarterfinals.
