O-line coach Tom Cable: "We got our tails kicked."

The Seahawks had only seven first downs in Monday’s win, and Russell Wilson was sacked seven times, so naturally offensive line coach/assistant head coach Tom Cable wasn’t to thrilled with how his offense, and the line in particular, performed.

“I didn’t think we had any rhythm on offense,” Cable said. “Our tempo, rhythm, continuity in staying in drives really lacked. Then we got into a situation where we struggled protection wise, so then we can’t stay on schedule. We didn’t play very good offensively and were very fortunate to win obviously.”

So what does a team do with a poor performance like that?

“You try to figure out why,” he said. “You have to be real to it. We have a saying about telling the truth, so don’t shy away from it. We got our tails kicked, so own it, learn from it and then be better all week in preparation for the next one.”

Asked what specifically he’s seeing going wrong with protection, Cable said, “We’re getting run by. It’s a matter of that depth in the pocket is just closing in from the outside, so we’re getting run by specifically.”

Cable was then asked if they’ll try to do more in their scheme to help the line: “Sure, we try to do some things, chip, bounce people and do some of that. So do we have to do a little more of that? We’ll see how the game plan comes together for Sunday.”

When asked about the fact that both starting tackles are missing, Cable said that can’t be an excuse: “We have to execute better. No excuses. We just got our tails kicked and we’ll learn from it and be better this week. At the end of the day, we have to play better.”
