A number of the local lakes that opened to trout fishing in late April continue to produce well — Martha, Serene, Silver, Sixteen, McMurray — and competition has dropped off substantially. Jim Strege at Triangle Bait &Tackle in Snohomish said Flowing Lake, the middle lake in the group of three about five miles due north of Monroe, is a good bet not only for foot-long rainbows but for a scattering of multipound triploids.
“We’ve weighed trout from Flowing to 4 pounds recently, and we’ve heard of larger fish than that,” Strege said.
Berkley Power Eggs in yellow or chartreuse are popular with bait fishermen there, he said, and No. 6 or No. 8 Wedding Ring spinners tipped with a piece of worm or a maggot for trollers. During evening hours, trolled or cast flies also will produce.
Flowing Lake has a pier at the county park, and a state Department of Fish and Wildlife access area and boat launch, Strege said.
