POLL: Which local team has the best shot at a state title?

Ten Snohomish County high school teams are still alive to win a state championship this weekend.

Last week I penned a column illustrating the strength of softball being played in Snohomish County, putting together a hypothetical Snohomish County University softball team out of current college players produced by area high schools. Well, this week seems to reinforce the idea that softball is the sport we do well.

It’s high school spring sports state week, with all team sports holding their state championships over the weekend. So for this week’s Seattle Sidelines poll let’s take a look at the teams that have a chance to bring home a championship trophy.

Snohomish County has 10 teams still alive with the chance to win a state championship in the three spring teams sports — softball, baseball and boys soccer. Of those 10 teams, eight — that’s right, EIGHT — are softball teams. Granted, a big part of that is because baseball and boys soccer are down to the final four in each classification, while softball still has 16 teams remaining. That said, I’ll be surprised if we end up with just one softball semifinalist — we had four softball semifinalists last year.

Anyway, here are the 10 Snohomish County teams playing for a state title this weekend:

Usually I post the poll to two places, both here on the blog and on Twitter. However, Twitter limits polls to four selections. In the past, for these types of polls I’d pick three favorites and toss everyone else into an “other” category. However, I’m having a hard time narrowing the favorites down to three teams, so I’ve decided to limit this poll to the blog. Sorry Twitter voters, you have to come to The Herald’s website to have your voice heard this week.

So which team do you think has the best chance at winning a state championship? Vote here:
