Prep boys basketball: Glacier Peak 52, Snohomish 40

SNOHOMISH — Big nights from Trey Chambers and Brady Southard paced Glacier Peak to a 52-40 win over crosstown rival Snohomish in a Wesco crossover boys basketball game on Tuesday night.

Chambers, Glacier Peak’s leading scorer returning from last year’s team, scored a game-high 18 points and added four steals. Southard added 13 rebounds to go along with his six points.

“Brady really battled tonight,” said Grizzlies head coach Brian Hunter. “He’s a little undersized compared to those guys from Snohomish he was going against. He battled and just focused. 13 boards is a nice night and was a big key for us in winning the game.”

Hunter credited his team’s defensive pressure in a game where his squad had a 30-22 lead going into the game’s final eight minutes.

“The game opened up a little bit more (in the fourth),” Hunter said. “We knew going in that we needed to force them into playing our tempo and force them into being a little more uncomfortable if were going to win this game.”

The strategy paid off as Glacier Peak scored 22 points in the game’s final period to hold off Snohomish in the season opener for both teams.

The Grizzlies held the Panthers returning leading scorer from last season’s team, Josh Baird, to just six points.
