MUKILTEO — In an early season showdown between Wesco South favorites, Jackson drew first blood, dropping Kamiak 59-44 Friday at Kamiak H.S.
Jason Todd led the Timberwolves (2-0 league, 5-0 overall) with 16 points and Sam Brown was second on the team with 12 as Jackson used a 30-15 spurt in the second and third quarters to pull away from the Knights (1-1, 3-2).
For Kamiak Imaan Vicente, who ended up with six points, picked up two fouls in the first quarter and a third at the start of the second and had to come out. Knights coach Cory West said Vicente’s absence was key. The Knights struggled with foul trouble and turnovers and weren’t able to get into their normal flow offensively. Nicholas Kussman topped Kamiak scorers with 15 points.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game,” West said. “It’s a setback, but we have to focus on our game (Saturday) … The good thing is we’ll see them again.”
Kamiak plays a nonleague game at Lynnwood today.
