SAN DIEGO — The Jackson boys basketball team made 17 of 20 free throws and expanded a one-point halftime lead into a 63-50 victory over host University City in a Surf and Slam Tournament game Friday.
The Timberwolves outscored University City 35-23 in the second half.
“We started to get some transition baskets,” Jackson coach Steve Johnson said. “We started turning defense into offense.
“We’re staying in a hotel three to a room and we were walking around Disneyland all day yesterday, but we had a lot of energy in the second half. It was a pleasant surprise given the trip and all.”
Brian Zehr scored 15 points and had eight rebounds and Jason Todd scored 17 points and had seven rebounds to lead Jackson.
