PREP BOYS SOCCER ROUNDUP: Archbishop Murphy wins on overtime goal

SULTAN — After 81 scoreless minutes, Archbishop Murphy (2-0 league, 2-1 overall) emerged victorious in a Cascade Conference boys soccer game Friday on an unassisted goal by Matt Fryer in extra time, beating Sultan (1-1, 1-3) 1-0 at Sultan High School.

“It was a typical Archbishop Murphy-Sultan boys soccer game where everything was contested to the end,” Sultan head coach Mark Raney. “It was just a really great game.”

After Sultan goalkeeper Clayton Knowles saved one shot, the ball bounced back to the middle and Fryer knocked the ball into the net.

Doug Elbrecht recorded the shutout in goal for Archbishop Murphy.

King’s 7, Lakewood 0: At Shoreline, Logan Griffiths recorded the shutout for King’s (2-0) against Lakewood (0-2) in the Cascade Conference game. Gunnar Ildhuso scored three goals (two unassisted, one Trevor Bartells assist) and Bartells added two goals (Nick Swanson and Evan Sabo assists). Sam Hauck scored an unassisted goal and Jake Hibbard scored off a Drew Corwin assist. Lakewood’s goalkeeper was not reported.

Lake Stevens 7, Arlington 1: At Arlington, Nick Bylin (Nic Roe assist) started the goals early, scoring in the sixth minute to help Lake Stevens lead almost the entire way in the Wesco North game. Bylin (Josh Otusanya) added another goal in the 22nd minute. Mark Russell, Jake Orwiler (Roe), Otusanya (Bylin), Donovan Granston (Tanner Sellars) and Shawn Morgan (Russell) all added goals for the Vikings (3-1 in league and overall). David Lopez scored on a penalty kick in the 77th minute for Arlington (2-3), which started Kevin Rasanen in goal. Michael Pierce and Dalton Roberts split time in goal for Lake Stevens.

Monroe 1, Stanwood 1: At Monroe, Jack Fortune scored in the 47th minute off a Jorge Avila assist to give Monroe the lead all the way until the last minute in the Wesco North game. Then, with 30 seconds remaining in regulation, Stanwood’s Mickey Brown (Kody Henderson assist) scored to tie the game and force overtime. Both teams went scoreless in the OT. Jose Perez Jr. stood in goal for Monroe (1-2-1 in league and overall) and his counterpart across the field was Daulton Alumbaugh for the Spartans (2-1-2).

Snohomish 3, Everett 0: At Snohomish, the Panther’s Cody Melander earned a shutout against Everett (2-2-0 league, 2-2-0 overall) in the Wesco North game. Carson Pingrey scored in the 12th minute off a Zach Crutchfield assist, Jon Jaeger scored off a Daryn English assist in the 52nd and Crutchfield knocked in an English assist in the 59th, all for Snohomish (4-0-1, 4-0-1). Tanner Jelinek was the goalkeeper for Everett.

Marysville-Pilchuck 2, Cascade 1: At Everett, John Crenshaw scored a goal for Marysville-Pilchuck. The Tomahawks other goal scorer was not reported. Steven Van (Tyler Codiga assist) scored the Cascade goal. Kyle Bluhm was the goalkeeper for Marysville-Pilchuck (3-1-0 league and overall). Cory Evans and Brian Janner split time in goal for Cascade (1-3-0).

Mariner 3, Lynnwood 0: At Bothell, Aleksey Gubarik (Christian Rodriguez assist) scored in the 20th minute, and Yahir Sandoval followed that up with two goals, one on a penalty kick and one on a header off an assist from Eddie Tamayo, to give Mariner the win in the non-conference game. Martin Banuelos earned the shutout for the Marauders (2-2 overall). Lynnwood’s (1-3) goalkeeper was not reported.

Kamiak 1, Meadowdale 0: At Mukilteo, Kamiak’s Bryton Reim dribbled past a couple defenders, lost possession of the ball, then slid and knocked it into the goal in the 37th minute to score the lone goal of the game and give the Knights the non-conference victory. Caleb Smith recorded the shutout for Kamiak (2-0-2 overall) and Kenneth Hill was the goalkeeper for Meadowdale (1-3).

Edmonds-Woodway 4, Mountlake Terrace 1: At Edmonds, after Jeremy Wentzel (Danny Dubois assist) put Edmonds-Woodway up early in the sixth minute, Johnny Alvarez (Mesfin Gebreneskel) answered with a goal in the 13th minute for Mountlake Terrace. The Warriors (2-1-1 overall) responded with goals by Landon Machado (Cameron Berlin-Day), Lucas Thompson (Jason Major) and Ben Wilmot to earn the victory in the non-conference game. Eric Whitney and Ben Winters were the goalkeepers for Edmonds-Woodway and Mountlake Terrace (0-4) respectively.

Shorewood 1, Jackson 0: At Shoreline, Christian Holmquist scored in the second minute of the game off an Essa Jallow assist and Shorewood hung on the rest of the way to earn the non-conference win. Simon Aspinall recorded the shutout for the Thunderbirds (2-1-1 overall). Jackson’s (1-3) keeper was not reported.
