MARYSVILLE — It’s not always pretty, but Marysville-Pilchuck sure enjoys pounding its opponents with its running game.

Hosting Edmonds-Woodway Friday night, M-P did not attempt a single pass, yet overwhelmed the Warrior in a Wesco 4A seeding contest.

The Tomahawks earned the third seed and home-field advantage heading into the quad-district playoffs. E-W will be the fourth seed and play on the road.

M-P had four backs totaling more than 100 yards rushing and 509 as a group.

“It was a great game for us,” M-P head coach Brandon Carson said. “Pretty special night with four guys going over 100 yards.”

Those four guys were: Kyle Miller (11 carries for 114 yards), Tyler Thompson (17 carries for 139 yards), Tylor Klep (19 carries for 142 yards and four touchdowns) and Cody House (12 carries for 114 yards and a touchdown).

It was Klep, though, who spearheaded the assault.

“Our quarterback, Tylor Klep, had an incredible game,” Carson said. “Sometimes his stats don’t look spectacular, but he’s always leading the team. He pretty much willed us to victory, tonight.”

Edmonds-Woodway was led by Zack Berg, who finished with 120 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries. His last score in the third quarter cut M-P’s lead to 21-20 but E-W got no closer.

The Tomahawks will host Bethel in a state qualifying game Friday.
