PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Archbishop Murphy earns top seed to 2A district

EVERETT — Blake Torres ran for 74 yards and scored two touchdowns in the first half as Archbishop Murphy jumped out to a 21-0 lead en route to a 28-6 Cascade Conference victory over South Whidbey Friday night at Ennis Stadium.

With the win, Murphy secured the conference’s No. 1 seed to the 2A District 1 playoffs. The Wildcats will host the fourth seed from the Northwest Conference in the district playoffs.

Murphy held the Falcons to 30 total yards in the first half and forced three second-half fumbles to hold off South Whidbey. The Falcons were led by Henry Mead, who ran for 82 yards on 14 carries, including a 50-yard TD run.

Arlington 47, Snohomish 13: At Snohomish, Snohomish coach Mark Perry knew it wasn’t going to be his team’s night when Arlington took the lead for good on a fourth-and-5 play in the second quarter. Andy Smith’s pass bounced off the intended receiver and was caught by Blake McPherson, who turned it into a 45-yard touchdown. Smith had four TD passes altogether in the Wesco North win.

Everett 36, Shorecrest 6: At Everett, Everett assured itself of no worse than a Quad-district play-in game with the Wesco 3A win. The Seagulls finish league play next week against frontrunning Meadowdale and could finish as high as tied for first with a victory. Everett quarterback Chase Herrick threw two touchdown passes, one to Ben Barhanovich, who also kicked four extra points and regisrered a safety when he tackled a Shorecrest ballcarrier in the Scots’ end zone.

Meadowdale 46, Lynnwood 24: At Edmonds, Meadowdale, ranked No. 7 in Class 3A in the AP poll, assured itself of no worse than a tie for the Wesco 3A championship. The Mavericks can win the title outright — and the league’s No. 1 seed to the Quad-district playoffs — with a victory next week over Everett. Meadowdale began the game with 32 unanswered points. Naji Moore-Taylor rushed 22 times for 171 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Mavericks. Meadowdale quarterback Danny McDonald was 8-for-16 for 95 yards and two TDs. For Lynnwood, Typhis Cochran ran 11 times for 148 yards and two TDs, QB Michael Stanley completed nine of 14 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown and receiver Josh Latimer caught three passes for 131 yards.

King’s 31, Granite Falls 6: At Granite Falls, Thomas Vincent had 252 yards rushing on 37 carries with three touchdowns in King’s Cascade Conference victory. Vincent also completed eight of his 16 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Jackson Lilliness had four solo tackles, six tackles for loss and one sack for the Knights. Coty Walker rushed for 100 yards on 19 carries with one touchdown and defensively Zach Jones had 14 tackles for Granite Falls.
