Prep girls basketball: Edmonds-Woodway 56, Kamiak 48

MUKILTEO — Edmonds-Woodway built a 13-point halftime lead and held off Kamiak in the second half to earn a 56-48 Wesco 4A South win on Thursday.

Natalie Kasper and Moni Jackson each scored 18 points. Both players impressed Knights head coach Brian Norman.

“I don’t know if Kasper missed a shot,” Norman said. “Jackson puts a lot of pressure on the ball. She’s strong, despite her size. She hurt us quite a bit.”

Margaret Slack and Salena Taylor led Kamiak with 13 points apiece, but Norman lamented his team’s slow start that saw the Knights manage just 16 points in the first half.

“We came out too tentative and they hit some shots,” Norman said. “In the second half we put a little more pressure on them to get back in the game.”

The Knights managed to cut the lead to single digits, but the Warriors seemed to answer every Kamiak run with a 3-pointer. Four of Edmonds-Woodway’s six 3-pointers came during the final two periods.

“We left too many of their shooters open,” Norman said. “The three killed us in the second half.”
