Prep girls basketball: Jackson able to withstand Schumacher’s 28 points

LAKE STEVENS — A 28-point explosion by Lake Stevens’ Stephanie Schumacher wasn’t enough to get past Jackson, which used a big second-quarter run Thursday to earn a 57-48 non-league victory over the Vikings.

“It was a hard-fought, scrappy game tonight,” Jackson coach Jeannie Thompson said.

Thompson said her team was able to pull away in the second quarter because it was able to use its press to create steals and convert those steals into points.

Both teams are very young, and Thompson said it was a big win for her team.

Lake Stevens graduated its entire starting line-up from last season.

Kristin Stoffel led a balanced Jackson attack with 13 points.
