LYNNWOOD — Some nights it just seems like all the shots go in.
That was the case Monday night for the Lynnwood girls basketball team. The Royals came out firing and continued to make baskets all night as they remained undefeated in Wesco 3A play with a 62-32 conference win over Oak Harbor.
“We were hot from the beginning,” Royals coach Everett Edwards said. “We hit eight 3-pointers in the first half. We were shooting the ball really well.”
Junior Izzy Maza led Lynnwood with 12 points, all coming from behind the 3-point arc.
“That’s probably the most points she’s scored,” he said. “It’s great for her to step up and hit some buckets.”
Grace Douglas scored 11 points — nine coming from 3-pointers — and Jasmin Edwards added another 11 for the Royals, who found themselves with many open looks from outside against the Oak Harbor zone defense.
“We were passing the ball really well and finding open shooters,” Edwards said.
Oak Harbor was led by the nine points of sophomore point guard Annie Leete. Edwards said the Royals paid special attention to her.
“Their best player is going to be Leete,” Edwards said. “She scored in every quarter. She’s the Michael Jordan of their team. A good scorer. … We tried to limit her touches and her open looks.”
Lywnnwood improved to 6-1. The Royals face undefeated Shorecrest on Wednesday.
“At this point to be 6-1 is a great place to be,” Edwards said. “We have the challenging part of our schedule coming up.”
