FERNDALE — Maddi Null’s game-winning goal in the second overtime period of a loser-out 3A District 1 playoff game extended Meadowdale’s season. Marcail McDonald gave the Mavericks the lead 18 minutes into the game. It took until the 50th minute for Ferndale to answer, but they did with a goal from Kelli Bannerman. Tied at 1-1, freshman forward Emily Critchlow answered immediately with back-to-back goals in the 51st and 54th minutes to give Meadowdale some breathing room with a 3-1 lead. Haley Locker was able to cut into that lead for Ferndale in the 63rd minute, leaving the Golden Eagles down one with just 15 minutes to play in regulation. Then, with just under three minutes to play, Kaytlyn Steele took a pass from Bannerman and deposited it in the back of the net to tie the game at 3-3. It was Null, however, who had the final say with the game-winner in the 88th minute and allow Meadowdale to advance to a Monday 3A District 1 semifinal.
