SNOHOMISH — Sage Andersen’s first-inning home run helped the Cascade High School softball team beat Snohomish 15-14 Monday in a back-and-forth Wesco crossover game.
Although there were a total of 29 hits in the game, Andersen’s home run was one of just two extra base hits. The other was a double by Cascade’s Chloe McIntosh.
“Typically, we’re a power-hitting team,” Snohomish coach Lou Kennedy said. “Tonight we had a lot of walks but (today) it was a lack of execution.”
Snohomish left 15 runners on base. Kennedy gave much of the credit for his team’s inability to advance runners to Cascade’s defensive play and to pitcher Aubrey Peterson, who came in for starter Mackenzie Melby in the first inning.
“(Peterson) did a really nice job,” Kennedy said. “We drew a lot of walks off of her, but she was just able to keep the ball in play, and her defense was really able to help her out.”
Snohomish was led by Trysten Melhart, who went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and three stolen bases.
