GRANITE FALLS — Granite Falls led 19-0 after three innings when Sultan pitcher Rachel Kirkpatrick was hit in the head, forcing the Turks to forfeit the game due to the lack of another available pitcher.
“It was scary,” said Granite Falls coach Candi Reeves, who did say that it could have been worse but Kirkpatrick deflected the ball first before it hit her head. “I’ve never seen anything like it. After it hit her head it ended up bouncing all the way into right field.”
Reeves said Kirkpatrick was taken to the hospital but that she was alert and walked off the field on her own power.
Granite Falls pitcher Jessica Mueller had a no-hitter with five strikeouts after three innings before the game was called.
